Millions of Filipinos are members of the Social Security System or more popularly called SSS. The social insurance giant provides several benefit and loan offers for its member. It can attend even in times of natural disasters leaving some areas in a state of calamity.
With regards to the loan offers of the social insurance giant, aside from the SSS Housing Loan, it also has the SSS Emergency Loan offer or also called the Calamity Loan. It is designed to help members who are residing or working in areas declared under a state of calamity.
The truth is, natural disasters can cause anything from structural damage and loss of livelihood to even fatalities. Many people only come to appreciate the importance of qualifying for a Calamity Loan after their community has been struck by an earthquake, typhoon, tsunami, or other major disaster.
To avail of the loan offer, members must meet certain SSS Emergency Loan requirements, which vary depending on whether they are applying personally or through an authorized representative. Before filing your application, it’s important to review the eligibility criteria set by the state-run social insurance institution which are as follows:
- a minimum of 24 monthly contributions posted and three (3) of which must have been posted within the last 12-month period before the month of filing of loan application
- at least 60 years old upon the filing of the loan application
- not a recipient of any final SSS benefit nor was refunded SSS contributions
- has updated payments in case of existing loans with the SSS
The requirements for the SSS Emergency Loan application may differ depending on the situation. If the member-borrower will personally file the application, the following documents must be submitted to the state-run social insurance agency.
- one (1) copy of the SSS calamity loan assistance application form
- original copy of barangay certification
- original copy of valid ID
If the loan application will be filed through an authorized representative on behalf of the member, the following SSS Emergency Loan requirements must be submitted to the SSS:
- one (1) copy of the SSS calamity loan assistance application form
- original copy of authorization letter
- original copy of barangay certificate
- printed scanned copies of valid ID/documents of the OFW or seafarer member
- original copy of valid ID or document of the authorized representative
