E-Trike Driver Sustained Injuries After Building’s Canopy Suddenly Collapsed in Manila
A 44-year-old e-trike driver was hurt after a portion of a commercial building’s canopy suddenly collapsed in Manila.
On Wednesday afternoon (February 25, 2026), the driver was parked along the roadside, waiting for passengers when the incident happened. Without warning, a large section of the building’s canopy gave way and fell straight onto his e-trike. Pieces of concrete and metal crashed down, shocking everyone in the area.
Witnesses said the scene quickly turned chaotic. The driver was reportedly hit on the head by falling debris. Despite being injured, he managed to step out of his vehicle and tried to move away from the danger.

“Dito ako nakaparada, tapos biglang bumagsak yung debris na yan. Tapos, yung nakasakay doon, biglang ano, yun tinamaan sa ulo. Sa gulat namin, wala na kaming magawa,” witness Francisco Bartolata said.
However, after running a short distance, he suddenly collapsed due to his injuries. Concerned bystanders rushed to his side. Some carefully pulled him away from the fallen debris to make sure he would not be harmed further.
Others called for help. Emergency medical responders arrived shortly after and gave him first aid before bringing him to the hospital for proper treatment.

“Bale nabagsakan po daw yung ulo niya, then from the… pagkalabas sa e-trike niya lumabas po siya tumakbo hanggang dito tapos dito na daw po natumba,” EMS Sampaloc chief in charge SFO3 Hazel Abegania said.
Initial reports from the local City Engineering Office showed that the collapsed canopy measured about 10 meters long. Authorities are now coordinating with the Office of the Building Official to inspect the structure and determine the cause of the collapse.

To prevent another accident, the area was immediately cordoned off. Barangay personnel were assigned to guard the site and keep pedestrians from passing underneath the damaged structure.
“Para po secure namin ‘yung lugar, kasi nga sa sobrang makukulit ‘yung mga tao, may harang na, dumadaan pa sila sa ilalim. Para maiwasan na po natin ‘yung may maaksidente po muli,” Punong Barangay, 313 Eddie Jazmin said.
