Brillante Mendoza talked about his latest movie project
Award-winning director Brillante Mendoza explained the “no script” setup in the movie Until She Remembers.
This movie featured veteran stars Charo Santos and Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo, with Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, who previously mentioned in an interview that they did not have a script for this project.
Barbie shared that this was a challenging project for her since Direk Brillante had a different approach. They were told that their characters should react to the present situation as the camera was rolling.

In a recent interview, based on the article in GMA Entertainment, as the writer and director of the movie, Direk Brillante Mendoza revealed that while he was conceptualizing the movie, he was already thinking about the three lead female stars.
It was his first time working with Charo, Boots, and Barbie. For him, this was the right timing for the project.
“I think meron talagang timing ang lahat ng bagay. Kasi with Ma’am Charo, dapat ilang taon naka-work na kami, si Barbie din. Si Tita Boots naman, naka-work ko sa isang project na ako ang nag-produce. Pero as an actor, wala pa. Pero siguro ito yung the right timing and the right project for them,” the award-winning director said.
He also addressed the no script reputation that he has. The director said there was a script, actually, as the production team needed a guide, but he did not provide the script for the actors.

“When I try to create, kumbaga, ang tinitingnan ko kasi kung saan pupunta ‘yung kuwento. But I don’t really write the dialogues, the scenes that concerns the actor’s blocking. Kasi, I leave that to them. May rason kasi yun kaya hindi ko pino-provide ‘yung script sa mga actors,” he explained.
Direk Brillante also shared that when he worked with international actors, it was their first time experiencing the no script setup. They had no idea what was happening, and for him, this was magic.
The director also said that he has written, studied, and knows the emotions. As the writer and the director, he already had a perception of the characters and the flow of the situations.
“But then, I am not the character. And I leave that to my actors because they are my co-creators. I call them my co-creators,” Direk Brillante Mendoza said.
