Is Sen. Rodante Marcoleta the running mate of VP Sara Duterte? This is what he said.
VP Sara Duterte is running for president, and amid the speculations, Senator Rodante Marcoleta shares thoughts about being her running mate.
Vice President Sara Duterte had an early declaration of her 2028 presidential bid. According to Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr., this could hand her future rivals a strategic edge and subject her to intense scrutiny over allegations of threatening officials and misusing confidential funds.

Senator Imee Marcos is open to becoming her running mate in the upcoming national elections, and this all-female tandem is supported by Senator Robin Padilla. However, Padilla is open to also running as her vice president, provided that the decision comes directly from former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Meanwhile, there is also a buzz that Senator Rodante Marcoleta is a possible running mate, and recently, in an interview, he was asked about this. Speaking on the February 20 episode of his program “Sa Ganang Mamamayan,” Marcoleta sidestepped a question about the possibility of seeking the vice presidency.
“Ang gusto ko munang gawin ngayon, ituwid ko lahat ang mga mali nito,” Marcoleta said. His plan, for now, is to correct the errors that he sees, not addressing the question directly.
Marcoleta cited disagreements with several public figures, including retired Supreme Court justice Antonio Carpio, Senator Panfilo Lacson, Jay Tarriela, maritime law expert Jay Batongbacal, and former senator Francis Tolentino, saying he plans to address what he considers their errors before focusing on any political plans.
Meanwhile, despite the declaration, the vice president is facing new attempts to impeach her after the Supreme Court voided impeachment proceedings against her in 2025. Malacañang on Friday also expressed that her early announcement was “irrelevant,” as the Marcos administration remains focused on achieving its agenda for prosperity.
