Following the Senators’ Debate, PH Coast Guard Spox Claims Cayetano Allegedly ‘Disrespected, Maligned’ Him
PH Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela slammed Senator Alan Peter Cayetano over his recent tirades about the controversial caricature of Chinese President Xi Jin Ping.
The supposed caricature of Chinese leader Xi Jin Ping used by Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela during a lecture earned different opinions from the senators. Recently, the lawmakers in the Senate even had a debate over the resolution condemning Chinese officials’ remarks versus the Philippine government officials. One of those who are against the resolution is minority Sen. Robin Padilla.

According to Sen. Padilla, he will also get mad if the same thing will be done to President Ferdinand “Bongbong Marcos Jr. even if he is part of the opposition. Fifteen (15) senators voted in favor of the Senate Resolution No. 256 and six (6) senators opposed it:

Sen. Robin Padilla also asked the Philippine Coast Guard why they did not purchase stronger water cannons and fired back at China. The tension in the disputed West Philippine Sea has seemingly taken another level based on several recent reports.

Recently, during the plenary debate, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano slammed PH Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela. Based on a report on GMA News, the Senator claimed that Tarriela should take off his uniform and should allegedly clarify which statement of China he was referring to during a part of the lecture that tackled “Why China remains to be bully?”
PH Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela reacted to the tirades of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. According to him, he does not believe that he has done anything wrong to the national interest for the Senator to supposedly insult and malign him.

“Si Sen. Cayetano, hindi ko ma-get kung anong galit niya doon sa caricature, Pero when was the last time he expressed such passionate statement against the People’s Republic of China? Or even issued condemnation ng office of the Senator Cayetano?” the PH Coast Guard spox said.
Furthermore, based on the report, Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela also recalled the time when former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte slammed then-U.S. Pres. Barrack Obama as Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano is now talking about decorum.
“At the same time when he was the secretary of Foreign Affairs. And he talked about decorum and he talked about not mocking any national leader. What did he say during the time President Duterte, when he mocked President Obama, he said a lot of bad things against the Pope himself. So, hindi ko alam kung anong standard ni Sen. Cayetano with regard to China,” Tarriela expressed.
Based on the report, the PH Coast Guard spox explained that the controversial caricature was shown during a lecture to university students regarding the happenings in the West Philippine Sea. He stressed that there were no international audience and it was simply for “academic discussion”.
Previously, amid the criticisms against him and the accusations that he is allegedly “pro-China”, Sen. Robin Padilla issued a warning to those who are allegedly trying to pick a fight with China.
