Several Lyre Band Members Hurt After Firecrackers Went Off During Procession in Quezon
Nine school lyre band members were injured after firecrackers went off during a religious procession in Candelaria, Quezon.
On Saturday afternoon (February 7, 2026), the group was taking part in the procession welcoming the Our Lady of Caysasay when the incident happened. Among those hurt were five minors who were part of the elementary school band.
Based on initial reports from local police, the incident occurred at around 1:00 in the afternoon. The lyre band was marching as part of the celebration when firecrackers suddenly exploded nearby.

Pieces of debris from the blasts struck several band members, causing minor injuries to different parts of their bodies. The unexpected noise and impact caused alarm among participants and nearby residents.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene. Personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection assisted the injured band members and ensured the area was secured. The victims were immediately brought to the nearest hospital to receive proper medical care.
Doctors later confirmed that all injuries were minor. After being treated and observed, all nine band members were allowed to go home. The organizer of religious activity covered the hospital expenses, easing the burden on the victims and their families.

Authorities are now working to determine where the firecrackers came from and how they ended up exploding during the procession. They reminded the public to be more careful, especially during religious events that draw large crowds and include children.
The presence of firecrackers in such gatherings poses serious risks and can easily lead to accidents.

Local officials continue to encourage cooperation from the community to ensure that religious and cultural events remain safe, orderly, and free from harm for everyone involved.
