Lani Mercado seeks due process for Bong Revilla.
Lani Mercado appeals for due process for her husband, detained former senator Bong Revilla, who is allegedly involved in the flood control issue.
Former Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla surrendered shortly after the arrest warrant, and a hold departure order against him and other individuals was released by Sandiganbayan’s Third Division. During his surrender, he was accompanied by his wife, Lani Mercado, and children.
The Sandiganbayan released arrest warrants against Revilla and the following officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways:
- former DPWH Bulacan First District Engineering Office (DEO) assistant district engineer Brice Hernandez
- former DPWH Bulacan First DEO Engr. Jaypee Mendoza
- former DPWH Bulacan First DEO Engr. Arjay Domasig
- former DPWH Bulacan First DEO Engr. Emelita Juat
- former DPWH Bulacan First DEO finance section chief Juanito Mendoza, at
- DPWH Bulacan First District Engineering Office cashier Christina Pineda
Revilla lamented the lack of due process in his case, and recently, his wife sought this for him. He faces graft and malversation of public funds. In a statement, Mercado expressed that Revilla’s cases are now under judicial review.
As a wife and as a politician, she asked for understanding, fairness, and respect for due process. She also clarified that she did not issue any public statements regarding this matter and does not intend to make any public comments going forward.
She stated, “As his wife and as a public servant myself, I ask for understanding, fairness, and respect for due process. I would also like to clarify that I have not issued any public statements regarding this matter, and I do not intend to make any public comments moving forward. Our family continues to draw strength from our faith, and we remain hopeful for a fair and just resolution.”
Meanwhile, Revilla remained in detention despite posting bail for graft. This is because malversation of public funds is not bailable under the Philippine law.
