LTO Summons Reckless Tricycle Driver Caught Counterflowing on One-Way Road
The Land Transportation Office has summoned a ‘Pasaway’ tricycle driver for counterflowing on the road, a clear violation of traffic laws.
Recently, the official Facebook page of the Land Transportation Office – Philippines called out the tricycle driver for the dangerous act of counterflowing on a one-way street. The post quickly went viral and drew various reactions online.
The driver was seen blocking the road and appearing to mock the motorist who recorded the incident. Many online users expressed concern, saying the act put other road users at risk and showed a lack of discipline and respect.

Because of the incident, the LTO immediately issued a Show Cause Order against both the tricycle driver and the vehicle owner. Under the leadership of LTO Chief Markus V. Lacanilao, the agency directed those involved to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division on January 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
They were also instructed to submit a verified explanation explaining why they should not face administrative charges.
Possible violations include reckless driving, obstruction of traffic, driving against traffic, failure to meet licensing requirements, and improper operation of a motor vehicle. While the investigation is ongoing, the driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days.
The tricycle involved has also been placed under alarm status to prevent its use.
The LTO made it clear that failure to attend the hearing or submit an explanation will result in the case being decided based on available evidence. Authorities stressed that counterflowing is not only illegal but also a serious threat to public safety.
The agency reminded all drivers that traffic rules exist to protect everyone on the road. Acts of recklessness and disrespect will not be tolerated, as every road user deserves a safe and orderly trip.
