Good Samaritan Helping Injured Riders Passes Away After Being Hit by Truck
A Good Samaritan has lost his life after being hit by a truck while helping injured riders in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.
The 42-year-old man paid the ultimate price for his concern for others when he was struck by a wing van truck while assisting victims of an earlier crash.
On Tuesday (January 13, 2026), the man was traveling with a companion when they came upon a motorcycle accident along the road in Barangay Mandangoa. Without hesitation, he decided to stop and offer help to the injured riders. His companion stayed close as they checked on those involved.
After a few moments, a wing van truck suddenly approached at a fast speed. Witnesses said the truck veered toward the side of the road, catching the group by surprise. Seeing the danger, the man pushed his companion away from the path of the truck, saving his life.
Unfortunately, he was not able to move out of the way in time and was hit by the vehicle.
The truck driver later explained that the brakes of the vehicle failed, forcing him to steer to the right side of the road. He also said that his view was blocked by another large truck in front of him, which prevented him from seeing the people on the roadside.
Aside from the man who died, seven other individuals suffered minor injuries due to the incident. They were given medical attention and are now recovering.
Police said that the truck owner, the family of the deceased, and those who were injured have already talked and reached an agreement. Because of this, no formal complaint will be filed.
