Ferdinand Topacio reacted to the Best Actor award that Vice Ganda received
Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda was hailed as the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2025 Best Actor, and this was contradicted by Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, who is also a movie producer.
Vice ventured into drama with his MMFF movie Call Me Mother with award-winning actress Nadine Lustre. This movie was a blockbuster hit as the comedian’s fans never failed to show support for his movie projects, especially since it was part of the annual film festival.
Vice received praise from his fans and colleagues for the acting recognition given to him. However, there were those who contradicted the decision of the jury to choose him as the best actor.
Atty. Ferdinand Topacio believed that A-list actor Piolo Pascual was more deserving of the best actor trophy than Vice Ganda, based on the article in Bandera.
“Maganda ‘yung acting ni Vice, to be fair. But over Piolo Pascual as well in the ‘Manila’s Finest,’ no way! No effing way!” the lawyer-producer said, during the press conference for the movie Spring in Prague, produced by his production company, Borracho Films.
Topacio also said that the management of MMFF should be given to the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) or the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). For him, the film festival is in the wrong hands. Currently, MMFF is under the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
“Metropolitan Film Festival ‘yan dati. Ang daming magagandang pelikula niyan. May social message. Ang problema kasi, you have placed the movie industry in the hands of people who know nothing about movies,” the lawyer said.
As of this writing, Vice Ganda has yet to react to the statement made by Atty. Ferdinand Topacio regarding his MMFF Best Actor Award last year.
