2 Devotees Die During Traslacion 2026 in Manila, NCRPO Says

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported that two devotees have died during the Traslacion 2026 in Manila.

On early Saturday morning (January 10, 2026), the agency reported that two devotees of Jesus Nazareno have died during the religious event as the long and crowded procession continued through the city.

Authorities have not yet released full details about the two devotees who passed away. What has been made clear is that their names are separate from that of a photojournalist who also died while covering the event.

The police confirmed that the journalist’s death was not directly related to taking part in the procession itself.

The annual Traslacion once again drew massive crowds, with thousands of devotees walking for hours to show their faith and devotion. Because of the intense heat, tight crowding, and long distance, many participants experienced health issues.

The Philippine Red Cross reported that hundreds of people needed medical help. Most cases involved dizziness, minor wounds, abrasions, sprains, and exhaustion. Medical teams also conducted regular monitoring of vital signs for many devotees along the route.

Church officials confirmed that the two devotees who died were involved in the procession. They added that there are still several cases being closely monitored due to health concerns. At least 29 devotees were reported to be under observation as the event continued.

As the procession continued, church leaders appealed to the public for prayers. They asked for everyone’s cooperation and concern so the image of Jesus Nazareno could safely return to Quiapo Church.

Most of all, they expressed hope that devotees would make their families safe after a long and physically demanding day of faith and devotion.
