Man Who Attempts to Steal Power Cables Now in Critical Condition After Suffering From Electrocution
A man who attempted to steal power cables in Quezon City is currently fighting for his life after suffering from electrocution.
On Sunday (January 4, 2026), a male thief is currently in critical condition after attempting to steal power cables. The authorities say not only put him in danger but also disrupted the lives of thousands of residents.
The incident happened in Barangay Unang Sigaw, near the North Luzon Expressway exit going to Balintawak.

According to reports, the 37-year-old suspect climbed a series of power poles at around three in the morning. Before he could cut the cables completely, he was electrocuted by high-voltage lines.
The strong electric shock caused him to fall from the pole and land in a nearby canal. He suffered severe burns on his body and sustained multiple fractures. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Barangay officials said the man was not a resident of the area. There is still confusion over how he was able to enter the location, as the area is fenced and guarded due to its proximity to the expressway.
During initial questioning, the suspect gave inconsistent explanations about how the incident happened.
The attempted theft caused a power outage that affected nearly 8,000 residents in Barangay Unang Sigaw. Small businesses were among those impacted, including local food vendors who were forced to stop operations while electricity was being restored.
Many residents expressed frustration over the sudden blackout, especially since it happened before dawn.
Meralco strongly warned the public about the serious dangers of going near power lines and facilities. The firm also reminded the public that stealing electrical cables and facilities is a criminal offense, and those involved will face charges.
Aside from power lines, other utility equipment such as electric meters and communication cables are also targets due to the copper they contain.
