Judy Ann Santos went through an issue two decades ago
Soap opera queen Judy Ann Santos recalled the tax case she had to face back in 2005.
Judy Ann is one of the most successful showbiz personalities in the Philippines. With her years in the industry, she found success and became one of the most in-demand actresses and endorsers as well.
Just like many showbiz personalities, Judy Ann also had challenging times. One of the hardships she went through was for two decades.
Based on the article in ABS-CBN Entertainment, Judy Ann Santos recalled in a recent interview the 2005 tax evasion case that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed 20 years ago, which the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) dismissed in 2013. She opened up that it was a difficult time for her, and many people did not understand.
“Hindi ko napansin na dalawang araw akong tulog tapos may isang mahabang pause ako na nagawa nung araw na nagising ako at na-realize ko na pagod na pala ako. Sa laban na ito, wala akong kasama. Ang daming nangyayari na hindi ko naiintindihan,” the actress said.
It was the first-ever case that she faced, and she remembered the process, the mugshots, and the cameras that were directed at her.
During that time, Judy Ann said that she felt that people who did not benefit from the situation were distancing themselves. She felt alone back then.
“‘Pag may kinikita ka, biglang ang dami mong kasama. Pero ‘pag may problema kang pagdaraanan — na puwedeng sumabit ang mga pangalan nila — biglang wala silang kinalaman (pakialam) sa ’yo,” she shared.
While going through that hardship, Judy Ann said that she discovered her own worth and freedom. That incident became a moment of pause for her. It pushed her to take control of her decision in life and her worth, including the things she wants to do in her career, as well as how she would reinvent herself.
“Pero hinayaan ko lang siya na parang I know na it needed to happen, na I had to know kung ano ‘yung accounts ko, magkano ba talaga ang kinikita ko,” the award-winning actress shared.
Judy Ann Santos also shared that she had no idea how much she was earning back then. If that hardship had not happened to her, she would not able to learn this important aspect in her life.
