Vilma Santos Clarifies Controversial Statement Based On Edited Video

Here’s the statement of Vilma Santos about her viral remarks.

Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, through her office, released a statement clarifying the viral remarks she made circulating online.

“Sinasight ko ang sarili ko na kaya niyo kami tinitira kasi nasa taas kami at kaya kayo tumitira kasi nasa baba kayo. And at the same time nakasight din sa sarili ko there are some people yun talagang nagbabash lang walang intensyong iba ah.”

This was a part of the statement of Batangas Governor Vilma Santos that went viral online from a part of her interview. This was after Executive Secretary Ralph Recto received complaints on the transfer of P60-billion funds of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). 

She expressed that she was affected by the critical comments thrown at her family. Her remarks felt demeaning to many people, as some expressed that she was put in her position because of the people below her. She was accused of being “matapobre.”

Recently, through the office, she released a statement. The Office of the Governor clarified that the posts being spread online are “misleading and taken out of context.” There were accordingly parts that were selectively edited, which led to the misleading narrative, appearing as though she was belittling the public.

“In reality, Governor Santos-Recto was addressing the growing issue of fake news peddlers. Her message was a reminder for the public to exercise discernment in social media, verify information, and avoid spreading manipulated content that can harm healthy public discourse,” she stated.

It added that the governor was not criticizing the ordinary citizens. She only stressed the importance of critical thinking and responsible sharing in safeguarding the community from misinformation. They reminded the people to verify the details before sharing it online.
