Snake Found Resting on Christmas Tree Ornament

Snake Found Camouflaged on Christmas Tree Star

SNAKE – The holiday cheer inside a Bulacan home was briefly interrupted by an unusual and startling sight hidden in plain view.

A family in Bulacan experienced a surprise on Christmas morning after finding a snake quietly resting on the star ornament at the top of their Christmas tree, transforming a cheerful holiday setup into a shocking scene.

The discovery happened after the family noticed that the tree’s star topper did not look right. It appeared slightly tilted, initially suggesting a minor decorating issue. When they moved closer to adjust it, they realized there was something unusual on top of the ornament. What they first mistook as part of the decoration turned out to be a real snake, nearly invisible because it blended well with the Christmas tree.

According to a report by Kuya Kim on “GMA News’ 24 Oras” last Friday, homeowner Renz Santos shared how the surprising moment unfolded inside their house.

“Napansin namin na ‘yung Christmas star sa Christmas tree is nakahapay. Nung aayusin na namin, dun na namin napansin na may something dun sa ibabaw nung star, which is a snake pala. ‘Yung Christmas tree is kakulay niya. Maganda ‘yung pattern nung balat niya and shiny siya,” he recalled.

Although startled, Renz remained cautious and chose not to touch the snake. He instead took photos and posted them in a Facebook group focused on snakes found in the Philippines. Members of the group later helped identify the reptile as a paradise flying tree snake, a species known for its ability to glide from tree to tree.

Renz said the online group also shared crucial safety advice.

“Isa sa natutunan ko dun sa group is treat every snake na venomous until ma-ID mo siya. So hindi ko siya hinandle. Gumamit ako ng mahabang stick,” he explained.

Taking this guidance seriously, the homeowner kept his distance and used a long stick to manage the situation, ensuring there was no direct contact with the snake. The experience left the family both fascinated and cautious, especially since the encounter occurred inside their home during the holiday season.

Wildlife authorities and experts regularly advise the public to be careful when encountering snakes, particularly when the species has not yet been identified. Using appropriate tools and avoiding direct handling can help prevent harm to both people and animals.

The unusual incident quickly drew attention on social media, becoming a curious holiday story while also reminding the public that wildlife can sometimes appear in the most unexpected places, even on top of a Christmas tree.
