Top Officials From DPWH & DOTr Walk Along EDSA to Inspect Sidewalks Used by Commuters

The top officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Department of Transportation took a walk along EDSA to inspect sidewalks.

On early Tuesday morning (December 9, 2025), DPWH and DOTr top officials took a long walk along EDSA to personally check the condition of sidewalks used by commuters every day. The inspection began around 5:30 a.m., when the roads were still relatively quiet and foot traffic was just starting to build up.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez led the walking inspection, covering the stretch from Ayala Avenue in Makati to Roxas Boulevard in Pasay. Instead of relying on reports, the officials chose to see the situation themselves by experiencing how it feels to walk along one of the busiest roads in the country.

The members of the Move as One Coalition, including representatives who use wheelchairs. Their presence helped highlight the real challenges faced by people with disabilities when using sidewalks that are uneven, narrow, or blocked.

As the group moved along the route, they carefully observed broken pavement, missing ramps, parked vehicles, and other obstacles that make walking difficult and unsafe.

The inspection focused on how sidewalks can be made more usable for everyone, especially senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and ordinary workers who walk to and from public transport stations.

Simple things such as proper ramps, smoother pathways, and clear walking space can make a big difference in daily life.

The activity showed a strong push by the government toward building safer and more inclusive pedestrian spaces along EDSA.

Officials said the walking inspection is part of ongoing efforts to plan better solutions for EDSA. By seeing the problems up close, they hope to speed up improvements that will make walking along the busy avenue safer, more comfortable, and accessible for all pedestrians.
