Korina Sanchez Learns Lito Lapid Is a Senator
KORINA SANCHEZ – An unexpected exchange on Agenda drew laughter and attention as Korina Sanchez questioned, mid-broadcast, whether Lito Lapid had indeed won a Senate seat.
Korina Sanchez quickly became the subject of online chatter after her unfiltered on-air reaction to Senator Lito Lapid unexpectedly caught viewers’ attention. During the December 4 finale of the news program Agenda, the seasoned broadcaster appeared taken aback upon realizing—or being reminded—that the longtime action star had actually won a Senate seat in the most recent national and local elections (NLE).
The exchange took place while Sanchez and her co-hosts, Pinky Webb and Williard Cheng, were discussing whether any individuals implicated in the questionable flood control projects—currently under review by the Independent Commission for Infrastructures (ICI)—would potentially face imprisonment before the holiday season. Their conversation also referenced Lapid’s disappointment over the alleged involvement of both former and current associates in the issue.
Webb highlighted Lapid’s notably “kagulat-gulat” response when he addressed the situation.
“Kagulat-gulat din ngayong araw, si Sen. Lito Lapid nagsalita,” she remarked.
This led to Sanchez making a comment that took both viewers and her fellow anchors by surprise:
“Ay nanalo pala siya? Nanalo? Ah… kasama pala si Sen. Lito… congrats, Sen. Lito, hindi ko napapansin, sa totoo lang,” she said, causing Webb and Cheng to react in disbelief.
She then added humorously, “Dapat lang!”
Cheng offered context for Lapid’s limited public presence, noting,
“Sa sobrang bihira niya magsalita, kaya pag nagsalita siya, balita talaga.”
His comment prompted laughter among the anchors.
Webb further explained that Lapid had told the media he wanted the ICI to approach him regarding the probe.
“Tawagin n’yo po, tapos huwag kayong pumayag sa executive session,” she said.
Korina Sanchez responded, “Oo nga. Siguro kinukulit siya ng media.”
Before ending the segment, the anchors addressed the senator with a playful greeting:
“Hello Sen. Lito, ngayon lang daw po nalaman ni Korina na senador po kayo,” Webb joked.
Sanchez replied with amusement, “Ngayon alam ko na.”
Lapid previously placed 11th in the senatorial elections, securing one of the 12 slots available.
