Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Ilocos Norte, November 27, 2025

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.0 magnitude quake in Ilocos Norte today, November 27, 2025. Here are the details.

Following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu last September 30, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Ilocos Norte and it has a magnitude of 5.0.

The earthquake that struck Ilocos Norte today, November 27, 2025, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Ilocos Norte was located at 18.56°North, 120.61°East – 007 km North 31° West of Burgos. It had a depth of focus of 022 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities were felt in these areas:

Intensity II

  • Marcos, ILOCOS NORTE
  • Sinait, ILOCOS SUR

Intensity III

  • Adams, Bacarra, City of Batac, Dumalneg, City of Laoag, Paoay, and San Nicolas, ILOCOS NORTE

Intensity IV

  • Pasuquin, Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, and Vintar, ILOCOS NORTE

Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. Instrumental Intensity III was recorded in Baracarra in the same province.
