Richard Gomez Leaves Political Firestorm Behind for Major Movie Comeback
RICHARD GOMEZ – In the middle of corruption controversies and congressional tension, Richard Gomez reveals why he temporarily shifted from politics to filmmaking.
Actor and public servant Richard Gomez has decided to step away from the escalating political tension in government, choosing instead to make a comeback in the film industry. During his guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Gomez openly discussed why he agreed to take on a movie project despite the ongoing controversies and internal disputes in Congress.
“Alam mo Boy nagkataon na ang gulu-gulo ng mundo ng pulitika ngayon and I am in Congress, kagulo sa Congress ngayon. All of this corruption issues, flood control issues,” Goma said, describing the current situations that have been affecting him as a legislator.

Richard Gomez shared that the arrival of a compelling script greatly influenced his decision to return to acting. “Tamang-tama dumating ‘yung magandang script and sabi ko I don’t want to be there where the mess is. So pinili ko na magtrabaho. Sabi ko, let me stay away from all this mess,” he continued.
He explained that taking on the film allowed him to channel his energy into something worthwhile while Congress remains in disarray. “I love my work as a congressman because I’m able to help my district. I’m able to help the people. But again masuwerte ako because in the midst of all this turmoil nabigyan ako ng chance na gumawa ng isang Salvageland at ginawa ko so ito na ‘yun. Habang nagkakagulo sila, meron tayong nagawang maganda,” he said.
Gomez is currently serving as the representative of Leyte’s 4th District. Before this role, he completed his term as mayor of Ormoc City, during which he was noted for various improvements in the city. Despite his ongoing commitments in politics, he expressed appreciation for being given the chance to work on a new film.

Director Lino Cayetano is also making his return to cinema through this project. In Salvageland, Gomez teams up with Elijah Canlas, portraying a father-and-son law-enforcement tandem who confront a criminal syndicate operating outside Metro Manila.
The movie also features Mon Confiado, Cindy Miranda, McCoy de Leon, and Angela Morena, forming a strong ensemble cast for what is expected to be an intense and action-filled production highlighting Gomez’s significant return to the big screen.
