Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Dad Rodrigo’s Appeal for ICC Interim Release
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President reacted to the report that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was allegedly found unconscious in his International Criminal Court (ICC) detention room.
The camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte filed an appeal on the decision of the ICC over his interim release plea. The foreign court previously denied the interim release appeal of the former President with a unanimous decision among three (3) judges of the Pre-Trial Chamber.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is detained under the custody of the ICC for over 8 months now. Aside from junking his interim release plea, the ICC also previously junked Duterte camp’s challenged to its jurisdiction.
The former President is faced with three (3) counts of murder as alleged “crimes against humanity” filed by the ICC prosecutors. The Marcos Jr. administration received massive criticisms over the arrest and foreign detention of the former President. Previously, on his interim release plea, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that a “third country” supposedly committed to host the interim release of her father if the court grants it.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte admitted that the prefer a house arrest for the former President in Davao City. Several senators in the Senate urged the chamber to call for the interim release of the former Chief Executive. Amid his ICC detention, the Duterte siblings frequently to the The Hague, Netherlands to visit the former President.
Previously, amid her father’s appeal for an interim release, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the former President was allegedly found unconscious in the floor of his ICC room. She also claimed that her father was supposedly brought to a hospital but they were allegedly not informed about it.
Vice Pres. Duterte claimed that her father may be taken cared of better with a 24-hour caregiver. She also previously claimed that considering the age of the former President, not all his needs can be provided inside the detention facility.
Recently, reports that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was allegedly found unconscious in his ICC room led his supporters to worry. Meanwhile, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte broke her silence and clarified the reports.
Vice Pres. Duterte clarified that the reports that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was allegedly found unconscious in his ICC detention room is not true. Based on a report of PhilStar, she made the clarification during the “Run for Du30” event in Davao City.
“His lawyer called him last night, especially after the news came out that he was found unconscious in his room, and the lawyer said that he was OK,” the Vice President said.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the rumors “was not true and nothing sort of happened”. According to her, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte himself dismissed it as prank.
The Vice President claimed that they currently await the decision of the ICC on the appeal of his father over the court’s decision on his interim release. The court is set to issue a decision on November 28.
“We hope to hear good news… But if not, the family will continue to support him in his stay in The Hague and work with his defense team regarding his legal case,” the younger Duterte said.
Recently, the camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte asked the ICC to immediately and unconditionally release the ex-President.
