Teen Hero Rescues Over 50 People During Raging Flood in Cebu
A teen hero saved more than 50 people from flood in Villa Lara, Jubay, Liloan, Cebu using a lifebuoy and a boat.
A 15-year-old boy named Jayboy Magdadaro from Fatima, Jubay showed what true heroism means after saving numerous residents from the raging floods caused by Typhoon Tino. He was not a trained rescuer, yet he braved the strong currents, heavy rain, and dangerous debris just to save others.
When the flood started, Jayboy thought his own area in Fatima would be hit the hardest, so he evacuated to Sitio San Roque. But when he learned that Villa Lara was in greater danger, he didn’t think twice, he went back to help. That brave decision saved more than 50 lives.
From 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Jayboy tirelessly rescued residents using only a lifebuoy and a small boat. He helped everyone including children, pregnant women, and the elderly. The floodwaters were filled with floating debris and even lifeless bodies, but Jayboy continued without hesitation, focusing only on bringing people to safety.
After his rescue efforts, some tried to offer him money as gratitude, but he politely refused. For Jayboy, helping others in need should never be done for reward.
A resident named Reign Dayday, who witnessed his bravery, shared Jayboy’s story on Facebook. The post quickly went viral and garnered admiration from the online community. Some even suggested giving him a scholarship so he can finish his studies.
Jayboy is known in their barangay as part of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) support staff and has always been active in community work, from packing relief goods to assisting in local projects.
Magdadaro reminded everyone who helps during disasters to stay safe and remember that real kindness comes from the heart.
