NCDA Condemns ‘Blind Prank’ TikTok Trend for Mocking Disabilities
NCDA has strongly condemned the trending ‘Blind Prank’ on social media platform ‘TikTok’ for allegedly mocking disabilities.
The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) has strongly condemned the viral TikTok and social media trend called the “Emily Blind Prank,” where people, including children, pretend to be blind to supposedly win prizes or gain online attention.
According to the NCDA, this kind of content promotes discrimination and disrespect toward persons with disabilities. The agency emphasized that pretending to have a disability for entertainment makes fun of the struggles that many people genuinely face every day.

It also trivializes the real experiences of those who live with vision loss and other conditions.
The NCDA reminded the public that making jokes or mocking people with disabilities, whether in person or online, is a violation of Republic Act No. 9442. The law protects the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities and penalizes those who humiliate or discriminate against them.
The agency also called on parents, teachers, and content creators to be more responsible when creating or sharing videos online. It encouraged social media platforms to take down harmful content that disrespects people with disabilities.

The NCDA said such actions are not only insensitive but also harmful, as they teach young audiences that it’s acceptable to laugh at others’ conditions.
The council further urged the public to report any online content that violates these laws, stressing the importance of protecting the dignity of every person regardless of their physical condition.
The agency reminded everyone that disabilities are not costumes or jokes, but real experiences that deserve understanding and respect. It called for unity in promoting inclusion, empathy, and human rights, especially in the digital world where kindness should always come first.
