After Heartbreak, Ai-Ai delas Alas Makes a Life-Changing Decision About Her Ex’s Green Card
AI-AI DELAS ALAS – Comedy icon Ai-Ai delas Alas just made a powerful statement about self-respect and moving on, sharing why she decided to revoke her ex-husband’s U.S. residency petition.
Ai-Ai delas Alas has finally spoken about her decision to withdraw the green card petition of her former husband, Gerald Sibayan, after their separation. The seasoned actress and comedienne openly shared details about her emotional journey and how she is coping with the aftermath of their failed marriage.
Ai-Ai explained that revoking the petition was an important step in her process of healing and moving on from her past relationship. To clarify, a green card—formally known as a Permanent Resident Card—“grants an individual the legal right to live and work permanently in the United States. It also serves as a pathway to applying for U.S. citizenship after meeting the required years of residency.”
In her interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Ai-Ai admitted that the decision was difficult for her to make. “Nu’ng una, ayoko talagang gawin ‘yun. Pero nu’ng bandang huli, naisip ko, parang ayoko naman maging santa or something kasi parang ‘yun na lang ba ‘yung, kahit pangit, ‘yun na lang ba ‘yung ganti ko para sa sarili na nasaktan ako,” she said, noting that she wanted to reclaim her sense of self after what she went through.
The comedienne shared that Gerald’s green card was officially revoked at the same time she filed for divorce. Although the legal separation has yet to be finalized, she confirmed that Gerald is no longer part of her residency sponsorship.
When asked about her healing process, Ai-Ai admitted that while she is gradually recovering, the pain occasionally lingers. “I’ve moved on, tina-try ko mag-move on pero hindi pa siguro yung totally healed na healed. Minsan, naaalala ko pa rin. Minsan, naiiyak pa rin ako pero nandu’n na ako sa kumbaga 80 percent medyo okay na ako,” she shared.
Ai-Ai also recalled how the breakup took her by surprise. “Hindi kami nag-aaway, wala kaming pinag-aawayan. Basta na lang ayoko na, alis na ako, parang ganu’n so doon ako medyo nagulat,” she said.
Despite the heartbreak, the Comedy Queen maintains a positive outlook. “Ako ngayon ay at peace. Sabi ko nga, meron akong legacy of peace. Gusto mo lahat ng magiging pananaw mo sa buhay puro positive. Sabi nga pain was my teacher and healing is my revolution.”
