Senior Citizen Cyclist Injured After Crashing Into Car in San Mateo, Rizal
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A senior citizen cyclist was injured after crashing into a car in Barangay Guitnang Bayan 1, San Mateo, Rizal.
On Saturday (October 25, 2025), a 63-year-old cyclist suffered injuries after crashing into a car in Rizal.
According to a video shared by a vlogger and confirmed by the police, the elderly cyclist was speeding down the sloped and curved part of Kambal Road Extension when he lost control and swerved into the opposite lane. He then collided with the side of an oncoming sedan.
Police Lieutenant Jaime Arquillo of the San Mateo Police said the victim sustained only minor injuries, including a bump on the head and a few scrapes. He explained that the man was wearing a helmet, which helped prevent more serious harm. After receiving medical attention, the cyclist, a resident of Quezon City, was allowed to go home the same day.
“Fortunately po ay naka-headgear siya o helmet… kaya po nang nangyari ang incident hindi ganun kalaki o ka-serious ‘yong injury niya,” Arquillo said.
Authorities noted that while parts of Kambal Road Extension are known to be accident-prone, it remains a popular route among cyclists because of its smooth path and scenic view. However, they reminded bikers to always check their bicycles before riding and to be aware of the roads they plan to take.
“Bukod po sa dapat ay laging dapat nasa tamang kundisyon ang biskleta ay dapat yung mga siklista aware sila sa mga ruta natin na dadaanan nila. Ang mga LGU ay may mga paunang anunsiyo kung ang kalsada ay accident prone,” he added.
Local governments also issue warnings for roads with frequent accidents, which cyclists are encouraged to heed for their own safety.
Meanwhile, the driver of the sedan decided not to file a complaint after the cyclist took responsibility for the incident. The senior biker promised to shoulder the cost of repairs for the car’s dented door and damaged side mirror.
