A lawyer explained the issue between Kim Chiu and Lakam Chiu
Kapamilya actress-host Kim Chiu filed a qualified theft case against her sister Lakam Chiu, and allegedly, this issue started when the latter was hooked on gambling.
Kim and Lakam were known to be very close. They had a strong relationship as siblings, and this was evident in their social media posts. However, months after the rumor that they were having a conflict, reports surfaced that Kim officially filed a complaint against her older sister.
On Tuesday, December 2, Kim filed a criminal complaint for qualified theft before the Office of the Assistant City Prosecutor in Quezon City against Lakam.

The actress-host admitted that this was “sobrang sakit” for her. Over the years, they were each other’s best friend, confidant, and cheering squad.
Based on the Facebook post that Atty. Jesus Falcis shared, this problem started after Lakam Chiu recovered from bacterial meningitis in 2023. It was a miraculous moment that she was able to recover because Kim Chiu and her family had already discussed the “do-not-resuscitate” (DNR) order with the medical team, which showed Lakam’s dire condition.
After surviving that condition, it was said that Lakam got depressed, but also acquired the YOLO (you only live once) attitude.

“She got hooked into gambling. She was often spotted in Solaire or a hotel casino. Lakam lost hundreds of millions of pesos — from Kim Chiu’s earnings — to gambling in the last two years,” Atty. Falcis said.
It was said that Kim discovered this, but she remained very understanding toward her older sister. Reportedly, they even reconciled last November 5. However, Kim’s hope that Lakam would do better allegedly did not happen.
“Kumuha daw ng pera sa vault or sa condo. Tapos binenta daw yung isang condo without Kim’s consent,” the lawyer claimed. With this, it was said that Kim Chiu came to a decision to take this matter to the court of law.
Atty. Falcis also explained why qualified theft was the case that was filed. He said that it is because of the relationship between the two parties that was built on trust and confidence. Kim Chiu trusted her sister, but that was destroyed.
The lawyer added that in this kind of scenario, there is no right or wrong decision. “It’s an impossible decision,” Atty. Falcis said.
