According to Remulla, it was in June 2023 when he had a heart surgery. When he was already recovering from the operation, he was diagnosed with leukemia. He had two (2) cycles of chemotherapy and body irradiation as part of the treatment against the disease.

The now-Ombudsman also revealed that he had a bone marrow transplant. According to him, he and his are a “full match”, thus, they were able to perform the bone marrow transplant and his prognosis looks good.

Based on the timeline, he was the secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ) already when he was diagnosed with leukemia. However, the statement of now-Ombudsman Boying Remulla was seemingly misinterpreted by others. The Ombudsman’s office recently issued a statement that was ordered ‘for immediate release” to clarify the health of Remulla.

The Ombudsman’s Office also pointed out that his recent revelation about his health was in “past tense” form and he was referring to the time prior to his appointment as the country’s chief graft-buster.
