Amid the Flood Control Mess, DILG Chief Jonvic Remulla Inspects Pasay City Jail
DILG – Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stressed that flood control suspects will be held in common cells without an air con.
The Independent Commission for Infrastructure is currently investigating the supposed multi-billion flood control scam. The ICI was created upon the order of President Bongbong Marcos amid several senators and congressmen being tagged in the issue.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had a change of leadership amid the flood control issue. Presidential cousin and Leyte Cong. Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House speaker amid the accusation of flood control corruption against him.
According to Romualdez, he stepped down so the ICI can fully and freely conduct their mandate to investigate without undue influence. Marcos Jr. previously claimed that Romualdez and his allies who will be linked to the issue won’t be spared from the flood control probe.

Recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways or DPWH confirmed that charges will be filed against 22 government officials and contractors. Ombudsman Boying Remulla also vowed to fast-track the legal process for a faster resolution of the flood control issue.

Recently, amid the ongoing flood control probe in the Philippines, DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla inspected the overcrowded Pasay City jail ahead of the possible arrests of the flood control suspects. Based on a report on Inquirer, the Interior Secretary claimed that the possible suspects with a Salary Grade 26 and below will be held in regular cells.
“I gave strict instructions that no one is allowed to place an inmate in the warden’s office, so they will be in the common cells,” the DILG Chief said in a statement noting that the office of the warden is the only area in the vicinity with an air conditioning unit.

Based on the report, DILG Sec. Boying Remulla claimed that there is allegedly no place for rich people inside the jail. He stressed that “the law is the law”.
“There is no longer a La Cathedral, no place for rich people to live inside the prison. The law is the law, and we will follow it no matter how painful it gets for anyone,” Remulla said.
The employees with a Salary Grade 26 usually occupy supervisory ranks. Based on the report, their salary may be at P126,252 but can also reach P140,000 or higher. DILG chief Jonvic Remulla also checked the newly-built Quezon City Jail-Male Dormitory which is being considered for higher-ranking officials.
Amid the issue, a private citizen urged the ICI to investigate the alleged flood control involvement of First Lady Liza Marcos.
