“I Lost 30 Pounds”: Jake Cuenca Opens Up About His Drastic Weight Loss
JAKE CUENCA – Commitment to the craft! Jake Cuenca shocked fans after admitting he lost a staggering 30 pounds to prepare for his intense prison scenes in What Lies Beneath.
Jake Cuenca showcased his dedication to acting by making a remarkable physical change for his role in the series What Lies Beneath. The actor disclosed that he went through a major weight loss transformation to fully embody his character.
On X (formerly Twitter), Jake responded to a fan who pointed out his noticeably slimmer figure and wondered if it was related to his role in the show. The fan wrote, “Nagpapayat ba talaga si Jake Cuenca for his role in #WhatLiesBeneath? Kasi kung oo, grabe ang dedikasyon at pagmamahal niya sa craft niya.”

Confirming the speculation, Jake replied, “I did I lost 30 pounds for the prison sequences I was down to 140 lbs and gained a bit back around 8 lbs to balance my look in Batang Quiapo.”
After dropping weight for the project, Jake revealed that he had to quickly regain muscle for a fashion event. Responding to another fan’s comment about his appearance, he shared, “I’m watching it as well and it’s like watching another person tbh (to be honest). I’m so proud of our show what’s crazy is somewhere in between those prison scenes I had to gain some muscle back for the Bench fashion show I only had 2 weeks notice.”
In What Lies Beneath, Jake plays Edong, a character he says is completely distinct from his portrayal of Miguelito in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo. “I think, for me, I’m just gonna let people watch it. To be honest. I think they will be surprised with the effort that I put into making Miguelito and Edong very different from one another,” he shared in a past interview.

He also expressed his appreciation to his directors for encouraging him to push his limits as an actor. “So for me, thank you so much to my directors for challenging me. It’s difficult na to be this character, but the way na shinu-shoot kami it really is challenging for an actor kasi one shot,” Jake said, describing it as his “loneliest role,” since most of his scenes required him to rely solely on his thoughts and emotions.
