After promoting a beer brand owned by Matthew Lhuillier, the buzz about the businessman and actress Chie Filomeno became louder. There were even rumors previously that Filomeno was being investigated by the family.

As of this writing, there is no confirmation yet about the relationship, but curiosity grew about the businessman.
Who is Matther Lhuillier?
He is 28 years old, and the young chef-entrepreneur is the founder of Bisaya Brew, the same product Filomeno promoted in an Instagram post, which created a louder buzz online about their real relationship.
Business really runs in his blood, and he learned the tricks of the trade from the Lhuilliers’ business acumen and the Maitland-Smiths’ artistry. Both are his lineage. He is a fourth-generation member of the wealthy and prominent M. Lhuillier family in the Philippines. This is a generation rewriting a legacy in his family.

His full name is Matthew Edouard Maitland-Smith Lhuillier, and in his inner circle, he is regarded as the “sunshine boy.” He was born on September 3, 1997. Much of his childhood was spent in California, USA, but he is deeply rooted a Cebuano.
Their family home in Cebu is in Maria Luisa Estate Park, where most of Cebu’s most established families are.
His father is Michael L. Lhuillier, CEO and President of the M Lhuillier Financial Services Group of Companies. His mother is Joanna Maitland-Smith Lhuillier, the daughter of the late Robert “Bob” Maitland-Smith, the British designer renowned for the globally acclaimed luxury brand that bears his name.

He completed high school at Viewpoint School in Calabasas, California. Prior to this, he attended Halstrom Academy in California. This is a private school that provides a one-on-one learning setup for students in grades 6-12.
In the Philippines, he attended Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu. This was followed by taking courses at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, where he improved his skills in food and beverage management, and Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where he studied the business side of operations.

He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Extension in 2022, where he finished culinary training, management insight, and hospitality expertise.
As the founder and CEO of Bisaya Brew, he shared this in a podcast with “Cebuana” hitmaker Karencitta: “This blend of culinary creativity and scientific discipline has successfully fused tradition with innovation, crafting a beverage that celebrates the rich flavors, stories, and heritage of the Visayas.”
