Woman Loses Her Life After Being Beaten by Drunken Husband
A woman lost her life after being beaten by her drunken husband in Laurel, Batangas, leaving their grandchild injured.
On Sunday evening (October 12, 2025), a heated argument between a couple in Barangay San Gabriel, Laurel, Batangas turned into a tragic crime.
According to the investigation of the Laurel Police, a 62-year-old man, reportedly drunk at the time, violently attacked his 63-year-old wife. The suspect allegedly punched, kicked, and hit her on the head with a piece of wood.
Police Major Rhyan Olave, chief of Laurel Municipal Police Station, said the victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Based on the autopsy report, the cause of death was a heart attack brought on by the assault.
“Nagsimula po ‘yung pagtatalo nung asawa nung kinuha ng suspect ‘yung pera sana na babaunin ng bata within the week, so ‘yung pagtatalo po nila ay nauwi sa pisikal na away. Hinampas po sa ulo ng kahoy ‘yun pong ating biktima, sinuntok, at tinadyakan po. Nawalan po ito ng malay,” Olave said.
Aside from his wife, the suspect also hurt their 13-year-old grandchild, who sustained minor injuries after being punched and struck with wood. The argument reportedly began when the man tried to take the money that was meant for the child’s school expenses, leading to a violent confrontation.
The suspect tested negative for illegal drugs, but police said he was under the influence of alcohol during the incident. The victim’s body is now at their home as her family mourns the loss.
The couple’s daughter revealed that their mother had long endured her father’s abusive behavior but remained strong for the sake of her six children.
At the police station, the suspect initially denied hitting his wife intentionally but later admitted his guilt and expressed regret for what he had done.
“Hindi ko sukat akalain. Hindi ko naman sinasadya. Labis na labis po ang aking pagsisisi dahil sa tunay na buhay, hindi ko kayang patayin ang asawa ko. Ako’y patawarin niya,” the suspect explained.
He now faces charges of parricide and violation of Republic Act 7610, also known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, for physically harming his grandchild.
