Statement of Incoming Ombudsman Boying Remulla on Complaints against Vice Pres. Duterte
Incoming Ombudsman Boying Remulla confirmed that he will have the complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte opened and studied.
Department of Justice Secretary Boying Remulla was one of the 17 individuals who applied for Ombudsman. Their applications were evaluated and screened by the Judiciary and Bar Council or JBC.

According to Remulla, he thinks that he has a lot to offer for the position. Amid his being a member of the Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet, the Justice Secretary previously confirmed that he has informed Pres. Bongbong Marcos about his decision.
Following the evaluation, only seven (7) applicants for Ombudsman out of 17 applications made it to the shortlist of the JBC. The said shortlist was submitted to Pres. Bongbong Marcos who has the power to choose who will be the country’s next chief graft buster.

DOJ Chief Boying Remulla was one of the applicants for Ombudsman who made it to the shortlist submitted by the JBC to Marcos Jr. Shortly after the JBC confirmed the submission of the shortlist for Ombudsman applicants, Malacañang announced that the President chose Remulla.

The appointment of incoming Ombudsman Boying Remulla earned different reactions from the Filipino people and his fellow officials in the government. There are those who believe in the capabilities of the Justice Secretary while there are those who doubt the intention behind his appointment.
Following his appointment, based on a report on GMA News, incoming Ombudsman Boying Remulla was asked about the complaints filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The complaints stemmed from her alleged misuse of the confidential funds of the offices she led.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is faced with an alleged misuse of P625 million confidential funds — P500 million confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and P125 million confidential funds of the Department of Education (DepEd). Based on the report, incoming Ombudsman Boying Remulla admitted that he will have the complaints opened and studied.
“Bubuklatin natin. Pag-aaralan at tatanungin natin ‘yung mga may hawak na ngayon, mga may hawak at ‘yung may tungkulin na hawakan ‘yung mga kasong iyon,” the incoming Ombudsman said.
