Lacson Resigns from being Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman amid the Flood Control Probe

SENATE BLUE RIBBON – Senate President Tito Sotto revealed the list of candidates who may be the next chairman of the committee.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives opened their own investigations on the alleged anomalous flood control projects in several areas across the nation. However, following the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI, the House decided to stop its probe.

House Speaker Bojie Dy believes that the flood probe is best left in the ICI, a three-member body that President Bongbong Marcos ordered to be created to investigate the flood control issue in the country. It is currently doing a private investigation on closed doors.

The House of Representatives had a change in leadership amid the flood control issue in the country. Presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House speaker so the ICI can allegedly exercise their mandate to investigate without undue influence.

With regards to the Senate, the flood investigation was under the Blue Ribbon Committee which was previously led by Sen. Rodante Marcoleta. Following the shakeup in the upper chamber after some senators were tagged in the flood control issue, Marcoleta was replaced by Sen. Ping Lacson.

However, recently, Sen. Ping Lacson decided to step down from the chairmanship of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. According to Senate Pres. Tito Sotto, the Senator is allegedly ‘frustrated’ over the comments of their fellow senators on the flood control hearings.

“Sen. Lacson is frustrated. He is not stressed. Ang nakikita niya, frustrated kasi naghe-hearing sya, may umaangal bakit naghe-hearing. Kapag hindi siya naghe-hearing may umaangal bakit hindi naghehearing,” the Senate President said.

Recently, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto revealed the names of who might replace Sen. Ping Lacson in the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairmanship. Based on a report on GMA News, the Senate Chief, the following are being considered for the position:
