Tito Sotto shared his thoughts on this recent statement made by Alan Peter Cayetano
Senator Tito Sotto reacted to the proposal of his fellow lawmaker Senator Alan Peter Cayetano to have a snap election.
Cayetano made this recent statement because he believed that Filipinos have lost confidence in government officials and institutions following the corruption issue.
On September 21, a nationwide protest against corruption was held and it is because of the alarming anomalous flood control projects. In the Senate inquiry on this issue, the focus of the alleged corruption was in Bulacan.

Several names were dragged into the issue, including Senators Chiz Escudero, Jinggoy Estrada, and Joel Villanueva. Even former Senator Bong Revilla was accused of receiving kickbacks.
Congressmen Martin Romualdez, Zaldy Co, and Arjo Atayde were also accused of gaining from the anomalous flood control projects.
With this, as the public trust dipped so low because of the corruption issue, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano suggested that a snap election would be held. “Honestly, who can blame them? So here’s a thought: what if we all just resign and allow a snap election… with one important addition—no incumbent from the above can run for one election cycle,” he said.

Based on the report from GMA News, Senate President Tito Sotto reacted to Cayetano’s call. “We have no Constitutional nor legal framework for snap elections. We will be flirting with uncertainty and chaos. Just my opinion,” Sotto said.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the Senate inquiry into the anomalous flood control projects was suspended. This garnered negative reactions from many Filipinos.
In a recent statement, President Bongbong Marcos said that the investigation into these anomalies should not be rushed. He pointed out that it would just useless if the case is dismissed just because of insufficient evidence. For him, it is important to acquire the needed pieces of evidence to make sure that the case will have a positive result.
