Raging River Sweeps Away Family’s Home as Heavy Rains Pour in Nueva Vizcaya
The raging river in Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya swept away a family’s home as heavy rains poured due to Typhoon Paolo.
Last Friday afternoon, October 3, 2025, a family’s home in Barangay Baliling was swept away by a strong river current. The incident was caught on video, showing how the rushing water carried the house downstream.
According to the Sta. Fe Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the river swelled quickly because of continuous rainfall. The house, owned by the Viernes family, stood near the riverbank, an area that used to be a rice field years ago.

Over time, however, the river’s flow had slowly eroded the land, moving closer to the homes nearby.
The family could only cry helplessly as they watched their home being taken by the flood. Fortunately, they managed to leave before the water reached their house, avoiding any injuries. Sadly, most of their belongings were lost to the raging current.
Authorities said the Viernes family, along with five other families whose houses were also at risk, are now staying temporarily at an evacuation center. Some residents living near the river have also evacuated as a precaution in case the waters rise again.
The Sta. Fe MDRRMO and local government are now working on temporary measures to protect nearby houses. They have coordinated with a construction company to help fill and strengthen the eroded riverbanks.
Dredging operations are also planned to prevent the river from overflowing again if heavy rains continue. Despite losing their home, the Viernes family remains grateful for their safety.
As of this writing, they are focusing on recovery and hoping that the government’s quick response will prevent other families from experiencing the same tragedy.
