Sen. JV Ejercito Speaks on Personal Thought amid Flood Control Mess

JV EJERCITO – The Senator claimed that five (5) senators including him consider of leaving the Senator Majority bloc but clarified that there is no move to oust Senate President Tito Sotto.

Several senators were implicated to the flood control projects issue in the Philippines. Senators Chiz Escudero, Jinggoy Estrada, and Joel Villanueva are accused of receiving kickbacks from the flood control projects. The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee continued its investigation on the flood control issue.

Aside from the issue over his P30-million campaign donation from a contractor, Sen. Chiz Escudero is accused of allegedly receiving a P160-million kickback from the flood control projects by a former undersecretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Roberto Bernardo.

All three (3) senators denied the accusations of corruption hurled against them. Amid the issue, the Senate had a change of leadership. Sen. Chiz Escudero was ousted and replaced by now-Senate Pres. Tito Sotto as chief of the upper chamber.

Previously, in his Senate privilege speech, Sen. Chiz Escudero claimed that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez is allegedly the mastermind behind the accusations of flood control corruption against him and his fellow senators. He also claimed that Romualdez is allegedly the one behind the “script and zarzuela” that cause feud.

Amid the issue, most Duterte bloc members are now part of the Minority bloc. Presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos also left the the group chat of the senators claiming that the group chat, the session, and the hearings are allegedly focused on pressuring their fellow senators.

Recently, Sen. JV Ejercito claimed that five (5) senators including him allegedly think of leaving the Senate Majority bloc. The Senate is also the chairman of the Ethics Committee.

An ethics complaint was recently filed against Sen. Chiz Escudero over the P30-million campaign donation from a contractor. Sen. JV Ejercito confirmed that he was informed about it but he still has to talk to the members of the committee. Based on a report of GMA News, Escudero is also faced with a show-cause order issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) over the issue.

According to Sen. JV Ejercito, in a text message to ABS-CBN News, he is thinking of being an independent senator. Based on the report, despite confirming that five (5) senators are considering of leaving the Majority bloc, there is no move to oust Senate Pres. Tito Sotto.

“For me the focus should be sa real culprits ng modus, mukhang nawawala doon. It was a thought. Trabaho lang ako. I am just frustrated and sad at what is happening to this country. Hindi na tayo makausad,” he said.

On the ethics complaint filed against him before the committee led by Sen. JV Ejercito, Sen. Chiz Escudero claimed that the “minions” of Congressman Martin Romualdez are allegedly behind it.
