Hero Dog ‘Luke’ Sustained Injuries After Saving Family During Powerful Earthquake in Cebu
HERO DOG – A dog in Daanbantayan, Cebu is being hailed as a hero after protecting his family during the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on September 30, 2025.
Instead of running to safety, the dog, named Luke, bravely shielded his owners from falling debris inside their home. His quick action prevented his family from suffering serious injuries, but sadly, he took the brunt of the impact and was left badly injured.
The Facebook page Hope for Strays, an animal welfare group, shared how Luke put himself in harm’s way to save his loved ones. His courage touched many people, and his act of loyalty was seen as a reminder of the deep bond between pets and their families.

After the quake, Luke’s family struggled to provide medical care and food as they were also affected by the disaster. Hope for Strays stepped in to seek help from the public, asking for support so Luke could receive immediate treatment.
By early morning, rescuers brought him to a veterinarian where he underwent examinations and x-rays to assess his injuries. While he still faces a long recovery, the group assured that Luke is now in safe hands and receiving the care he needs.
