In an interview, Angelica Panganiban recalls the time she had a huge breakdown.
Actress Angelica Panganiban shared the time when she lost herself because of her work and the mental struggles she went through.
No one can totally capture the mental and physical struggles and hardships of an actor except those who are really doing it. For the simple viewers, we could only grasp how well they portrayed the roles, but once these actors open up and hear what they say, there’s more depth to their story about their high-paying jobs.
Recently, in a vlog, one of the best actresses of the entertainment industry, Angelica Panganiban, spoke about the time when she lost herself. As mentioned prior about her being the best actress, there was a time when she was loaded with jobs, and all required various characters to portray and a range of emotions.
Between 2009 and 2010, she did the series Rubi, the movie I Love You, Goodbye, and the gag show Banana Sunday. She was also doing ASAP that time, and on the sidelines, she had guestings.
She was so overwhelmed that everything came crashing down. In the middle of doing the gag show, she experienced one of the biggest breakdowns of her life—an ironic moment, as she found herself in tears while surrounded by people whose job was to make others laugh.
“Iyak ako nang iyak. Sabi ko, hindi ko na kilala yung sarili ko. Ang dami kong ginagawa. Tapos napo-portray ko sila with flying colors, pero si Angelica, wala na, wala na siya. Nasaan siya? Tapos iyak ako nang iyak,” she recalls.
Angelica was only 24 years old at that time, and at a young age to juggle those things took a toll on her mental health. She wanted to seek help, but was hesitant. She did not push it through because of the stigma of going to a psychiatrist and undergoing therapy.
“Kapag sinabi mong you need help, sasabihin ng mga tao baliw ka and maluwag ang turnilyo,” she said, but fortunately, there were people in her life who understood her situation.
She was able to get through that difficult chapter in her life. Ironically, those were also the times when her career soared. She was flooded with commercials and acting projects; however, despite the achievements, she remained unhappy.
It wasn’t her ultimate dream. What gave her pure joy was becoming a wife and a mother – a family of her own – and she is now living this dream. Angelica married Gregg Homan, a businessman, and they have a daughter named Amila.
