Imee Marcos Reveals Why She Left Senate Group Chat

Find Out Why Imee Marcos Quits Senators’ Group Chat

IMEE MARCOS – Senator Imee Marcos has stirred headlines after exiting the Senate’s official group chat following a reminder from Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

Senator Imee Marcos confirmed that she left the all-senators group chat after a reminder from Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson to keep herself updated by reading messages there.

In a statement released on Thursday, October 2, Marcos shared screenshots of her exit from the chat labeled “20th Congress Senators.” She explained that the chatroom, which was once used for coordination during emergencies, has now turned into a venue for “pressure and attacks among senators.”

Marcos claimed the chat was being used for pressure and attacks among senators, the statement read. She recalled how, in previous years, the group chat served a meaningful purpose, such as uniting members during calamities and organizing donations. However, she lamented that it has since devolved into a blame game “worse than any disaster.”

The senator also compared the situation to the House of Representatives, where she said only Rep. Zaldy Co was being singled out. She questioned if similar targeting was happening within the Senate’s digital exchanges.

Defending her legislative performance, Marcos listed her accomplishments, which include two international treaties, the passage of a new Cooperative Code, and three signed laws: the Barangay and SK term extension, Konektadong Pinoy, and Libreng Libing programs. She emphasized that she preferred to channel her time and energy into legislative work rather than unproductive arguments.

At the same time, Marcos expressed concern over what she described as confusing signals within the Senate. She said she had heard discussions about the Blue Ribbon Committee no longer conducting hearings and instead issuing only a partial report. She also raised questions on whether caucuses had been held to decide on matters such as inviting Rep. Zaldy Co and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Lacson, however, pushed back against Marcos’ claims, urging her to keep herself informed. Lacson responded that Marcos should attend hearings and read updates to avoid confusion. He stressed that the announcements in the group chat were meant to guide members on official proceedings.

This week, the Blue Ribbon Committee has not scheduled a new hearing, with further updates still pending.
