Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes Breaks Silence on Alleged “Welfare Check” on Former Pres. Duterte
ANTONIO TRILLANES – The former Senator denied visiting former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte inside the detention facility of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
For more than six (6) months now, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte remains detained under the custody of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands. The confirmation of charges hearing against the former President was postponed after Duterte’s lawyer claimed that his client is allegedly “not fit to stand trial”.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is faced with three (3) counts of murder charges as “crimes against humanity” filed by the ICC prosecution. However, following his claim that the former President is allegedly suffering from a ‘cognitive impairment’, ICC lawyer Nicholas Kaufman asked the court to adjourn all the legal proceedings indefinitely.
The camp of Duterte has applied for his interim release but the ICC has yet to issue a decision on their request. According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, a “third country” has allegedly committed to host the interim release of the former President if the court grants it.

Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that the officials of the Philippine Embassy allegedly entered the ICC detention facility to conduct a sham “welfare check” on former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to her, a report about her father was allegedly sent to Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Amid the claim of his sister, Davao Congressman Paolo Duterte said “Trililing” was allegedly sent by the Philippine government to conduct a “welfare check” on former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. While he made no mention of former Sen. Antonio Trillanes, the Congressman posted a photo of him taken outside the ICC detention facility.
Trillanes was one of the staunch critics of the Duterte administration. Recently, the Senator broke his silence on the claim of the younger Duterte.

Based on a report on GMA News, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes denied visiting former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte inside the ICC detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands for a “welfare check”. He stressed that the policy in the ICC detention was discussed to them.
“Hindi po ako bumisita kay Duterte at napakadali ho niyang malaman ‘yan kasi naidiscuss po sa amin ng ICC ang mga polisiya sa ICC detention center,” the former Senator told Super Radyo dzBB.
Based on the report, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes also claimed that it would be easy for former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to inform his family if indeed he entered the ICC detention facility to conduct a welfare check on him. According to him, the former President has an access to the telephone 24/7.
Recently, several senators expressed their support on the Senate calling for a house arrest for former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano was one of those who want a house arrest for former Pres. Duterte.
