Iconic Cebu Bridge Marcelo Fernan Bridge Proven Stronger than Quake
A Cebu bridge engineered by the Japanese, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, stood strong after the 6.9 magnitude earthquake.
The recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake that jolted Cebu brought massive damage to several structures including fast food chains, churches, and other infrastructures. The epicenter of the quake was located at Bogo, Cebu.

The epicenter of the strong quake was located at 11.10°North, 124.14°East – 019 km North 70° East of City Of Bogo as per the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs. Up to Intensity VII was recorded of the said quake.
As of this writing, at least 60 people were reported dead due to the said quake. President Bongbong Marcos ordered the government agencies to extend help to the victims of the Cebu earthquake. Search and rescue operations continue amid the aftermath of the quake.

Amid the strong shaking, hospital staff, nurses, doctors, and patients in several hospitals in Cebu including the Cebu City Medical Hospital and Cebu Doctors’ Hospital were advised to evacuate for their safety. There were power outage in several areas for several hours following the strong shaking.

While the 6.9 magnitude Cebu earthquake brought massive damages to several structures, the iconic Cebu bridge Marcelo Fernan Bridge stood strong amid the strong shaking. It caught the attention of countless netizens on social media.

Based on a post on the Facebook page Cebu ni bai, the Marcelo Fernand Bridge was built in the 1990s. The said Cebu bridge was engineered by the Japanese and was funded with the help of the Japanese government.
Furthermore, based on the post, the said Cebu bridge was built by Kajima Corporation “with consulting from DCCD Engineering Corporation and Katahira & Engineers International”.
Amid the evacuation due to the strong earthquake that jolted Cebu, a pregnant woman gave birth to her baby on the sidewalk. Infants from the nursery of several medical facilities were also made sure to be safe by the nurses and the medical staff.
