Controversial contractor Sarah Discaya went viral because of her finger heart gesture, and according to her lawyer, this is what it means.
Upon her arrival at the Department of Justice, controversial contractor Sarah Discaya gestured a finger heart to the camera. It was a gesture she gave to members of the media. As much as we all know, Sarah and Curlee Discaya were among those who stood out among the 15 contractors identified by President Bongbong Marcos, and partly, it was because of their publicity efforts.
The Discayas claimed several officials received kickbacks, and among them were former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Quezon City Congressman Arjo Atayde, Pasig Congressman Roman Romulo, Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co, and Marikina Congressman Marcy Teodoro.
Based on the list of contractors, the Discayas alone have secured 404 government flood control projects worth PHP 30 billion in just three years.
Discaya’s lawyer, Cornelio Samaniego III, explained the viral heart finger, and according to him, the gesture was a sign of peace and love. He even cited that the problem with people on social media is that they often misinterpret a lot of things made by the subject individual.
“Problema ho kasi minsan sa atin—pasensiya na ho sa mga kaibigan natin sa media saka sa social media…nami-misinterpret ho nila eh. Binibigayan nila ng hindi magandang kahulugan eh tao lang ho naman tayo,” he said.
To recall, the contractor couple arrived separately at the DOJ last Saturday to present further evidence to strengthen the case against lawmakers and other individuals linked to the questionable flood control projects.
Sarah did the gesture when asked how she was doing, and quipped this when she was leaving the headquarters after more than three hours, after being asked how she was feeling: “Gandahan niyo yung memes ko.”
The DOJ said Discaya’s heart sign and remarks were “all taken into account in the assessment and evaluation of the persons involved.”
