Typhoon Nando Destroys Portion of Flood Control Project in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya
A portion of a flood control project in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, collapsed amid the devastation of Super Typhoon Nando.
The fury of Super Typhoon Nando left heavy damage in several areas of Nueva Vizcaya, particularly in the town of Kayapa. In Barangay Pingkian, a section of the flood control wall gave way in the early hours of Wednesday (September 24, 2025), after continuous rains caused the river to swell.
Residents shared that the river had risen quickly due to the nonstop downpour, and by around one in the morning, the pressure of the rushing waters became too much for the structure to handle.

The collapse damaged parts of a nearby church that stood close to the riverbank. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the damage left many shaken.
The possible erosion of the land where several houses stand worries the residents. With the flood control wall gone, the soil may weaken further, putting homes at risk of collapsing if no immediate action is taken. Families are anxious, especially with the rainy season far from over.

Some residents recalled that as early as July, cracks had already appeared in the flood control. They had informed local authorities about it, but the concern was left unaddressed. The recent storm portrays just how dangerous those cracks had become.
For the residents of Barangay Pingkian, the incident is not just about lost structures but about the safety of their homes and families. They are now calling for urgent assistance to repair the damage and to reinforce the riverbank before another disaster strikes.
While no lives were lost, the fear and uncertainty among residents remain as they face the days ahead with caution and hope for quick government action.
