Charo Santos Opens Up on Husband Cesar Concio Jr.

Charo Santos Reflects on Marriage, Love, & Loss After Husband’s Passing

CHARO SANTOS – Kapamilya star Charo Santos recently shared that looking after her husband during his illness was never a burden, emphasizing, “Walang mabigat kasi mahal ko.”

ABS-CBN executive and seasoned actress Charo Santos recently reflected on the deeper meaning of love that she discovered while caring for her late husband, Cesar Concio Jr. In a candid conversation with broadcaster KC Constantino, she shared her journey of love, grief, and strength, emphasizing how her understanding of love transformed in the final chapter of her marriage.

Her husband passed away in 2023 at the age of 91, just a few weeks shy of his 92nd birthday. Even though she faced the challenges of looking after a partner with a lingering illness, Charo never considered it a burden. “Walang mabigat kasi mahal ko,” she said, underscoring her commitment and affection.

Charo Santos also touched on her new film Only We Know with Dingdong Dantes, a project first presented to her years ago but only realized in 2025. Charo believes the timing made it more meaningful, as both she and Dantes are now at different points in their lives. “Ibang tao na ako nung 2023,” she admitted, explaining that her experiences have enriched both her outlook and her craft.

Discussing her evolving perspective on love, Charo explained, “Even your definition of love, nagiiba. When you’re young, when you get married and settle down, and when you go through challenges of married life. When you’re taking care of someone who has lingering illness–– iba. Ako, I learned that I am capable of deep love. Malalim pala ako mag mahal.”

She also recalled her late husband’s reassuring words about mortality, which gave her peace of mind. “Until the very end, in health and in sickness, we were partners,” she shared with warmth.

For Charo, her husband’s passing remains one of the “two tragic losses” in her life, alongside the ABS-CBN shutdown. Yet despite his illness, she was grateful that he stood by her during one of her most difficult times.

Almost two years since his death, Charo has returned to acting, holding close the memories of their love while carrying with her the lessons of their enduring bond.
