Opong PH Enters PAR, Nando PH Still Being Monitored Outside PAR

Based on an update from PAGASA, Opong PH has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

OPONG PH – At 4 PM, the tropical depression spotted east of Northeastern Mindanao has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Super Typhoon Nando has already exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but even after it sashayed its way out of PAR, it continued to enhance the southwest monsoon on Tuesday, September 23.

As of 10 AM on Tuesday, Nando, with the international name Ragasa, was 385 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, or 425 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes. It made landfall in Panuitan Island, Cagayan, while at its peak intensity of 215 km/h on Monday, September 22.

When Nando left, a tropical depression was being monitored outside PAR, formerly LPA 09f, and at 4 PM, it entered PAR and was given the name “Opong.” This was monitored east of northeastern Mindanao before it entered PAR.

At 4 PM, the location of the center was at 1,045 km East of Northeastern Mindanao, and had maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 1004 hPa. Opong is moving west southwestward at 10 km/h.

The highest Wind Signal that may be hoisted throughout its passage is Wind Signal No. 3, as this tropical cyclone may intensify into a severe tropical storm. Based on the update: “OPONG will continue to intensify while over the Philippine Sea and may reach severe tropical storm category by Thursday (25 September) afternoon. Further intensification, especially after the passage over the Philippine landmass, is not ruled out.”
