Several government and DPWH officials were accused by controversial contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects in the country. According to the contractors, former House Speaker and Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez and Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Zaldy Co allegedly got 30% kickback from the government flood control deals.

Presidential cousin and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House speaker amid the allegations. Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Zaldy Co has yet to return to the country as he’s in the United States when the issue broke.

Amid the issue, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte raised questions on why Marcos Jr.’s office can’t detain Martin Romualdez in the House and return Zaldy Co to the Philippines.
