Quezon City First District Representative Arjo Atayde received negative comments because of his relief operation amid the flood control issue.

In 2022, Arjo decided to enter the political arena. For many years, he has proven his acting caliber in the Philippine entertainment industry and was able to establish his name, away from the shadow of the name of his mother, veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez.

Arjo received support from the people in his district, and he was able to seek reelection in the 2025 midterm elections. However, his name was dragged into the recent controversies in flood control projects.

During a Senate hearing, contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya mentioned that Arjo Atayde received kickbacks from the flood control projects they had. The congressman denied this and said he never had interactions with the Discaya couple.

However, photos surfaced of them meeting. Arjo clarified that it was just a chance encounter, and the couple asked for a photo with him.

Amid the issue, the actor-politician shared photos on his official page taken during the relief operation he conducted. “Sa kabila ng nagdaang matinding pagbaha, tiniyak ni Cong. Arjo Atayde na makarating ang tulong sa bawat pamilyang nangangailangan—lalo na sa mga hindi nakalikas at nanatili sa kanilang mga tahanan,” the caption of the post stated. The relief operation was held on September 20 in Barangay Paltok.

In the comment section of the post, netizens expressed negative reactions instead of praising the congressman. Apparently, this did not appease the accusations against him. On the other hand, there were netizens who defended the congressman. Here are some comments.

Meanwhile, netizens were also able to dig up a photo showing that donation items from Arjo had a logo of St. Gerrard Construction, the company listed under Sarah and Curlee Discaya’s that was allegedly involved in anomalous flood control projects.
