Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Current Gov’t in PH amid Senate, House Shakeup

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that she sees no stability in the Philippine government now amid the Senate and House of Representatives leaderships change.

Amid the flood control mess in the Philippines, both the Senate and the House of Representatives had a shakeup. Former Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero was ousted and replaced with Sen. Tito Sotto in the Senate presidency. Escudero’s name was dragged into the flood control issue after he admitted to receiving a P30-million campaign donation from one of the contractors flagged by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Marcos Jr. revealed that the country has already spent over P500 billion for the flood control projects. According to him, there are 15 contractors which allegedly got around P100 billion from the said total spending on government flood control deals from July 2022 to May 2025.

According to the contractor who donated P30-million for the campaign of Sen. Chiz Escudero, it was his own money and not from the construction company, the Centerways Construction and Development Inc. Under the lead of Senate Pres. Tito Sotto, most of the Duterte allies in the Senate are now under the Minority bloc.

The Senate President Pro Tempore now is Sen. Ping Lacson while the Majority Leader is Sen. Migz Zubiri after senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva who previously occupied the said posts were accused of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects.

Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez also resigned from being the speaker of the House of Representatives. His resignation came amid flood control corruption issues against him as his name was one of those mentioned by controversial contractors Pacifico and Sarah Discaya in their joint affidavit.

The new House Speaker is Faustino “Bojie” Dy. Based on a report on Inquirer, with regards to the House committees, the committee chairmanships have no changes. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte aired her reaction to the recent change of leaderships in the Senate and the House of Representatives.

According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the current government in the Philippines now is not stable as there is allegedly no vision nor plan. She claimed that the officials are allegedly focused on politics and making sure they have money.

“Magulo siya kasi unang-una walang vision, walang direction, walang plano. Nakikita mo puro sila politika at paninigurado na may pera sa bulsa at ‘yung election nila sa susunod na darating na election. Ganoon ang makikita mo na ginagawa ng gobyerno,” the Vice President said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that the change of the leadership in the House is allegedly just a move to the people can say that they did something. However, they are allegedly the same people.

“’Yung pagpapalit nila ng Speaker d’yan ay para lang ‘yan masabi ng mga tao na meron silang ginawa sa House of Representatives sa reklamo at sa galit ng mga tao. Pero ang totoo niyan ay sila lang din ‘yan. Grupo lang din ‘yan ni Martin Romualdez, ni Sandro Marcos, and of course, siyempre, papunta na rin ‘yan kay BBM,” the Vice President said.

Amid his resignation, rumors that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez allegedly owns 12 houses in Forbes.
