The 2028 Elections is still a little short of three (3) years from now but there are already surveys on who have the potential to win the next presidential race. Undeniably, one of the political personalities whose name is linked to the upcoming presidential race is Vice Pres. Duterte.

Duterte ran with Pres. Bongbong Marcos during the 2022 Elections but their ties has turned sour just around two (2) years since they both won the polls. She resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and she also left Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands. He is faced with an accusation of crimes against humanity before the ICC over his administration’s drug war.

Following his arrest and the transfer of his custody to the ICC, the former President believes that what happened to him could lead to the presidency of his daughter, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Amid his detention in The Hague, the Duterte family members take turn in visiting the former Chief Executive.

During the 2025 Midterm Elections, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and her siblings fervently campaigned for the senatorial bets of the PDP-Laban as per the request of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Several candidates of the PDP won seats in the Senate.
Recently, during an interview, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed that the PDP-Laban is persistent in courting her for the 2028 Elections. According to her, they try to talk to her almost every week to convince her to join their party.

However, according to the Vice President, her decision not to join a national party is right after she left LAKAS as she does not have to pretend in front of the politicians. During the interview, she also confirmed that she remains a member of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago which is a regional party in Davao.
“Ang masigasig talaga at intent gyud is the PDP. Halos linggo-linggo nila ako kinakausap at ini-imbita na sumali sa partido nila. At naisip ko tama na rin siguro ‘yun na ano, na hindi na ako sumali ng partido pagkatapos kung umalis ng LAKAS, that way hindi ako kailangan makipag-plastikan sa mga pulitiko,” the Vice President said.
Amid her soured ties with Pres. Bongbong Marcos and the recent shakeup in the Senate and the House of Representatives after several senators and congressmen are linked to the flood control mess, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the Philippine government now is allegedly unstable.
