Gretchen Barretto Trusts Hearing, Attends Preliminary Probe On Missing Sabungeros

Gretchen Barretto appears at the DOJ for the missing sabungeros probe.

Controversial socialite and former actress Gretchen Barretto makes her first public appearance at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Gretchen Barretto, Atong Ang, and 60 other alleged suspects were dragged into the case of cockfighting enthusiasts who went missing four years ago. The Department of Justice (DOJ) previously released an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) against the alleged suspects.

In a previous article, Ang, Barretto, and others were served with subpoenas by the DOJ. Subpoenas were also issued against former National Capital Region Police Office chief, retired Police General Jonnel Estomo, and 18 cops.

Whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, or alias “Totoy,” claimed that the sabungeros were thrown into the Taal Lake, and the operation is still ongoing to find the missing sabungeros.

And recently, the controversial socialite, amid the controversy, faced the preliminary investigation of the DOJ. This was the first time that she was seen in public since she was dragged into the case. She came with her legal counsel, Atty. Alma Mallonga.

At the same time, Gretchen filed a counter-affidavit. She, through her legal counsel, insisted that everything was just pure allegations and stands by what they have already said before that the accusations stand for nothing.

“And if you look at the complaint affidavit, it’s actually recognized, the accusations against her are actually recognized as allegations, unsubstantiated, unproven,” Mallonga said.

They also hope that the case will eventually be dropped, as the accusations are baseless, and that the claims of the witness lack credibility. For now, Barretto will be doing her part, and when asked if she trusts the process and the hearing, she said, “I trust.”

Both Ang and Barretto have previously denied everything they were accused of.
