Senate Cites Controversial Contractor Curlee Discaya in Contempt during Flood Probe
CURLEE DISCAYA – The contractor was cited in contempt for allegedly lying about the absence of his wife, Sarah, during a Senate flood probe.
The Senate and the House of Representatives opened their own investigations in the controversial flood control scam in the Philippines. Pres. Bongbong Marcos also ordered the creation of an independent body for infrastructures probe.

Following the issuance of an executive order, the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) was formed. The said independent body for infrastructure probe is armed with broad powers including the power to move for the seizure of assets linked to irregularities and the issuance of subpoena.
Amid the creation of the ICI, the Senate confirmed that they will continue with their investigation on the flood control mess in the country. Today, another Senate flood probe is being held and controversial contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya were among those who are invited to the hearing.

However, Sarah Discaya did not appear at the Senate flood probe today. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Curlee Discaya claimed that his wife cannot attend the investigation today because of her alleged “heart condition”.

However, the reason cited by Curlee Discaya is not the same reason stated by his wife in a letter addressed to Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Ping Lacson. In her letter, Sarah Discaya claimed that she is scheduled to meet with her employees to discuss the current issues that her construction firms are facing.
Following the different reasons cited by the Discaya couple, based on the report, the Senate decided to cite Curlee Discaya in contempt for allegedly lying about the reason behind his wife’s absence at the flood probe today.

During the previous hearings, Sarah Discaya claimed owning 9 construction firms as well as the instances when her companies join the bidding for the same DPWH projects. Then-Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada said that it is allegedly not a legitimate bidding if it is the case.
Amid the issue, the Bureau of Customs took the custody of all the luxury cars of the Discayas. The Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board or PCAB revoked the contractor’s licenses of the 9 construction firms that Sarah Discaya admitted to owning.
